I am going to try and keep current news in my Rabbitry in this spot.
Hopefully I can keep it up to date!!!!
August 24/08:
Well today is the DRCBA Rabbit show at the Barrie Fair. It had a great
turnout of about 265 rabbits. Lots of new faces there and of course, lots of the old faithfuls.
It was nice to see everyone again. I have only attended 2 shows this year.
I guess I am getting a little tired of showing the rabbits. Been doing it for nearly 30 yrs. now.
The first show was in Baxter. We did very well there.
Got BOB Holland Lop.
At the Barrie Show, there were about 38 Holland Lops and we got BOB with a black otter Sr.
buck and ROB went to a broken orange doe that I sold to Julie Hartford.
There were 18 Neth. Dwarfs and I took BOB with a Black Otter Sr. doe and she went on to get Res. Fancy in Show, and I
also got ROB with a sable point Sr. Buck. We had a good time.
Our next show is in Orillia on Sept. 7th. Will let
you know what happens.
We are low on babies right now. Have a few Hollands
and Netherland babies that are about 5 - 6 weeks old. Had several does bred, but
only 2 had litters of 2 each!!! That doesn't usually happen.
Must be the weather or something????? Have more does bred, so I will
be hoping for better luck this time.
Sept. 7th - Orillia Show. This is the first time that I have attended
this show. It was a very nice show with about 95 rabbits there. There were about
35 Holland Lops there and we won BOB with my Sr. Broken Buck "Tuff-E-Nuff" and won ROB with my Jr. Broken orange buck.
"Tuffy" then got Best Fancy and then he got Res. rabbit in Show. We got beat out by a beautiful
Californian. We also got BOB and ROB with the Neth. Dwarfs, but we were the only one showing
them.
Sept. 10/08 - Sunderland Show. Sunderland
Show is gradually getting bigger every year. There were about 135 rabbits there.
It was a beautiful day today. There was 28 Holland Lops and we won BOB with my Sr.
Broken Doe and also won ROB with my Sr. Otter Buck. Again, I was the
only 1 showing Neth. Dwarfs. Well, our next show is in Beeton on Sat. Sept.
13th and it is a double show. Should be lots of rabbits there.
Sept. 13/08 - Well today was the Beeton Rabbit show. It is getting bigger every
year and it was a double show. I did well. In the first
show my Sr. broken buck "Tuff-E-Nuff" won R.O.B. Holland Lop and my Jr. black otter Neth. Dwarf buck won BOB and my Sr. black
otter doe "Polly" won ROB Neth. Dwarf. In the second show, my Hollands placed well and
my Sr. Sable Point Neth. buck "Dice" won BOB Neth. Dwarf and my Sr. black otter doe "Polly" won ROB.
Not sure when our next show is yet. Will keep you posted.
Sept. 27/08 - Well we finally have some new babies in the Rabbitry. "Breyer"
our broken tort. doe had 8 babies on Sept. 25th. Unfortunately 3 were born out of the box and did
not survive, but the other 5 are fine. Their Dad is Rylie.
My chocolate doe "Mocha Delight" also had 8 babies on Sept. 25th and she was bred to "CandyMan". She has
some harlequins, tri's and should be some chocolates in that litter. Also my black
otter doe "Disco Dancer" had 4 babies on Sept. 26th, but 2 were peanuts and did not survive. Their
Dad is "Laredo", a broken lilac buck. I did foster 2 babies from my chocolate doe to my black
otter doe to even things out a bit.
Have a couple more does due in 3 - 4 days. Will keep you posted.
Today was the Spencerville Show. I have attended that show for the past 10 yrs. or
so, but since my friend Liz Voigt gave up showing rabbits, I found it too far to drive by myself, so unfortunately I missed
it this year. Hope everything went well.
Oct. 18/08 - Well we attended the DRCBA show in Erin on Thanksgiving Monday. We did well
there.
My Holland Lop buck "Tuff-E-Nuff" won 1st Sr. buck. My Jr. broken orange
buck "Sundance" won Res. of Variety. My Sr. Tort doe "Vixen" won Best of Breed out
of 21 Hollands.
My Neth. Dwarfs also did very well. My Jr. Himi buck "Keno" won BOV, my Jr.
sable buck "Rory" won 1st out of 3, my Sr. sable Point buck "Dice" won BOV, my jr. black otter buck
"Batman" won ROV, and my Sr. Black otter buck "Cosmo" won Best of Breed out of 20 Dwarfs.
Our next and final show this year will be at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto on Nov. 16th/08.
We have lots of new babies in the Rabbitry. Will give some updates as to colors, etc. soon.
Royal Winter Fair - Nov. 16/08
Well this is our last show this year and it was a great one. Over 450 rabbits
entered in the show. We did really well. There
were 49 Holland Lops entered and my Black buck "Phoenix - 6 yrs. old" won Best of Breed and my broken lilac buck "McDuff"
won Res. of Breed. There were 29 Neth. Dwarfs in the show and
my black otter Jr. buck "Batman" won Best of Breed and went on to win Res. Fancy rabbit in Show.
My sable point buck "Dice" won Res. of Breed.
A beautiful New Zealand owned by Bill Gardhouse won Best in Show and a Himilayan owned by Liz Voigt won Res. in Show.
Dec. 8/08 - Well yesterday was our DRCBA Christmas party. When
I woke up in the morning, the weather was terrible. Snowing and blowing winds and we didn't
know if we should go or not. Well my husband and I decided to try it.
The drive wasn't too bad as long as you took your time. There was a great turnout
at the Party, there were all kinds of neat things at the Silent auction table and some fierce bidding on certain items.
It was great fun and made a lot of money for our Club. We had a great turkey dinner
(prepared by Roma - thanks from everyone) and lots of desserts, and a gift exchange. It was
really nice to see all the rabbit people there, both long time rabbit breeders and some new faces.
When the Sweepstakes Awards were given out, I was very surprised. We won the
2008 Sweepstakes for the Holland Lops and also the Netherland Dwarfs and then we won the Breeder of the Year with the highest
points. That was a real surprise, but a very pleasant one.
We also won a beautiful plaque that was donated by Beth Aping for the high point Holland Lop. (unfortunately I
have to give it back next year - LOL).
Anyways it was a great way to end the rabbit season and before you know it, we will be preparing for the shows again.
I had 2 new litters born on Dec. 4th and they seem fine, despite the cold temp. No more
babies due until Dec. 21st.
Jan. 17/09
Happy New year everyone. Well we had 2 new litters born on Jan. 14/15th
when the temp. dropped to - 31 deg. We had 6 does due at that time, but
1 little choc. doe had 7 babies, made a beautiful nest but the cold was too much for the babies and one of my Dwarf does had
3 babies, but again it was too cold. 2 of my other does missed, but 2 does did have litters. Will
give more info. on the litters shortly. We have had 2 heaters running all week
in the barn. Well hopefully it is going to get back to normal temp. now (or get
a little warmer) and stay there until Spring. Hope no-one else had losses during the very cold weather.
We have 6 or 7 does due on Feb. 1st and 2nd. Sure hope it doesn't drop in temp. again!!!
Jan. 27/09 -
Well, it sure was cold again, but starting to get a little milder now.
The 2 litters that were born in that real cold snap of Jan. 14/15 are doing well.
My chocolate doe "Mocha Delight" had 6 nice babies. She was bred to my nice little Tri buck "Yoda"
and she has 1 black, 1 broken black, 2 pretty harlequins, and 2 very nicely marked Tri's.
Will get pictures when they get a bit older. My other doe is a broken chocolate
"Ko-Ko" and was bred to "Sarge" and has 7 babies, all chocolates and broken chocolates.
I have 6 or 7 does due this weekend and it is suppose to be milder. Will
let you know what they have.
Feb. 7/09 -
Well we have some new babies. They were born on Feb. 2/09. My
1 Holland doe "Becky" has 6 babies. My black otter doe has 2 black otter babies
plus I had to foster a broken tort. from another doe, and my Dwarf doe Mocha Muffin has 4 babies, there are 2 choc. otters,
a solid choc. and it looks like an orange or fawn?? My other Dwarf doe has
3 babies, 2 black otters and it looks like a blue otter? All the bunnies are
enjoying this nice mild day. It was +7 here today. Had the
barn doors open most of the day while I was working in the barn. Will be taking pictures of the babies that were
born on Jan. 14th soon. They are doing well and bouncing in and out of the nest box now and
starting to eat solid foods. They are so cute at this age.
Feb. 25/09 - Well the weather sure is a topic of conversation.
Mild for a few days, then it drops so cold again. Tomorrow and Friday are suppose
to be on the + side, and then get cold again. We had 14 Holland Lop babies
and 4 Neth. Dwarf babies born on Feb. 20th. So far they are doing fine.
Will update on colors soon. Have a few more does due on March 3/4th, so hope
it doesn't get too cold on those days. Looking forward to the shows starting again.
Our first show will be in Baxter on April 11th. Hope to see some of you there.
March 20/09 - Hi again.
On March 4th we had 1 litter of 5 Holland Lop babies and 1 litter of 2 sable point Dwarf babies born.
Unfortunately, we lost 1 litter to the cold and 2 other does missed, but the 2 litters are doing well.
Then on March 13/14 we had 1 litter of Dwarfs born and 3 litters of Hollands born.
Will give more details on these litters soon.
